History of Collaboration

My first metal designs were produced in pewter in Sheffield, just down the road from where I grew up in Doncaster. I made salt & pepper shakers, tea pots and cafetieres many of which have stayed in continuous production ever since (and some of which can be purchased right here on this site!). Suffice to say that I seemed to come to the notice of other manufacturers around the world and one of these was Royal Selangor Pewter of Malaysia – the largest pewter manufacturer in the world. I had never been to the Orient before but following a series of meeting in London I was soon on a plane and heading for Kuala Lumpur to work with the fabulously skilled team at RS. That first trip was the start of a regular pattern of travel Eastwards, firstly to KL and then onwards to Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Korea so RS was really the key which for me opened my eyes to the possibilities that were available to me on the other side of the world. We worked together firstly on a super cool, beautifully made collection of home and desk accessories and then moved on to create a unique collection of christening gifts inspired by the idea of raising money to help save endangered species, plus we worked closely with Harpers Bazaar Malaysia ¬†on a one off project to produce a pewter jelly mould with proceeds going to breast cancer research. I grew to love Malaysia and its people, food, history and culture and we are now talking about launching a new collection of barware together in 2014 so watch this space…
